The Future Is Here!
Ukonline (my ISP) have finally launched their ADSL 2+ service, offering up to 22mbit/sec download speeds for supported areas.
My London PC is included, and I've just upgraded the service. Here's what they have to say:
Your maximum download speed should be approximately 18Mbit. This is an estimate, based on the extensive testing we have done with ADSL2+, the new broadband technology that supports broadband faster than 8Mb. The final maximum download speed that you experience may be slightly higher, or slightly lower, and is dependent on the quality and length of your phone line.
I happen to be less than 1km from the phone exchange so hopefully the figure will be accurate. Now imagine 18mbit/sec downloads?! Wow, that equals to 2.25 mbyte/sec, which potentially means 1 gigabyte per 7 minutes!!
So in reality (with all the headers and junk etc), I should be able to download 1 gig every 10 minutes.... very handy.
Problem is, they promised 2mbit upload speeds but the bastards are only providing 768kbits, well at least it's better than my current 400kbit, but 2mbit would've been great for our quake 3 server.... oh well
I think that one day (soon, next year?) we'll be able to play online with low pings and video chat at the same time with our enemies/team mates.... I'm sure anything faster than 2mbit can handle that easily, so perhaps it's time to test :)

Hah! I can download 1GB here in 61 days and 9 hours! beat that!
(calculated at 3Kbps)
:D
Have fun in DisneyLand, friend!
oh and yeah, a friend here has a PSP and was wondering from where he could obtain cracks and/or games? (online of course, broadband, no worry!)
I remember a time when my only glimpse of anything online was having to go to a friend who had a friend who worked for the UN, who had email. My friends abroad would email him, he'd put it on a floppy and give it to my friend, who nicked the stuff for himself and then passed it on to me. Great times indeed.... so at least now you've got 3kbit/sec, so be grateful, even though it sucks :p
I can't wait to go to Disney, woooot!
About the PSP, tell your friend to check www.maxconsole.net for info on how to run "backup" games from the MS (he needs to have a psp v1.5 ideally, check the site for more info). There he can get homebrew games and emulators also (SNES portable, YES!).
For "backup" images, tell him to check www.nforce.nl PSP section, and if he likes something there just buzz me and I'll sort him out :) Or ofcourse he can just check the one million torrent sites around. www.thepiratebay.org is infamous.
Salam
hey guys
SoB... have a nice trip...
'13... ur friend can go to Hassan (Shark shop in Bab Il-sharjee)... he is selling psp ISO's ($10 i think)..
oh and my dialup downloads at 6.3KB/sec... beat that ;p
INDIA
hey india!
thanx, will tell him!
cheers all!
Just out of interest, how does he "sell" the isos? I presume he gives you the iso file and you've got to have a big memory card to run it from? I also think he gives (for free?) the iso loader (UMD Emulator)
Anyway, hope your friend gets what he wants. Buzz me if you need me :o)
well he doesn't give the ISO per se.. yeah u got the memory and he downloads it from his pc... he assumes that all his customers r dumb enough so as not to figure out that they can spread the ISO's themselves... and yes he supplies the loader as a bonus!
