Created by a very talented (and generous) Japanese coder called Pixel, Doukutsu (or Cave Story) places you in the role of an amnesiac soldier that's trying to figure out what's going on. A great platform game which shamelessly borrows from all the golden "classics" like metroid, zelda, mario, knightmare, and all those wonderful 8bit platformers-come-action adventures. With a good plot, excellent controls, and 2D platforming and exploring at it's best, this game is a true gem that shouldn't be missed by any self-respecting gamer.
Luckily, romhack have translated it to english, so there's no excuse not to play the game!

looks and plays alot better than msx though :) but the gameplay and design is like a big tribute to all the great games of yesteryear.

it's not as easy as it looks though.
Oh and I bought R-type final for ps2 today (found it in the preowned bin, so it was cheap), can't wait to go kick so Bydo ass!!
Has any one of you been chucked in the labyrinth yet? there's a big-ass tank kind of boss that I just can't damage, and it's getting on my tits.

Just played it a bit more today, managed to kill that mofo tank
just stay on his legs so he doesn't crush you, then when he opens up smack him with your level 3 sword. that does the trick after a while!
lot's of good platforming needed though, so if someone watches you playing that boss they'll know for sure you're a geek :p
