Day 2

(Final update 20:58)

12:00 - Thanks to an email from Blue Blood, my BIOS is up to date now. Still no difference though, EPP still reports the RAM at 1333mhz. I've manually set them to 2000mhz and 1.9v, and taken 2 sticks out (leaving only 2gb in). That has kinda done the trick, but VISTA still reports only 1.7gb RAM (was reporting that even with 4gb installed).

Gonna install 64bit OS to see.

14:02 - Have decided to close everything up and make everything look like normal. Cleared all the boxes (kept them for future moves) and am now installing Vista 64bit. I think this is gonna be a stupid move (even more stupid than the whole project :p) but let's see.
BTW - COD4 worked and by God was it fast. Averaging 120fps at all times. Will benchmark things more properly once everything is set up.

14:33 - Vista 64bit installed. From the go it's read 4gb RAM. Not sure why 32bit was messing about, perhaps cos I hadn't installed SP1 (I thought I had). Now downloading nforce/geforce/sblaster drivers.

15:40 - Vista updating. Drivers installing. Reading Goblet Of Fire

17:30 - still using 64bit, one main difference is that the nForce control panel can now read all the data from the mobo, including EPP and stuff. Not sure why it didn't manage it on 32bit. Things seem to be OK 64bit, despite my hatred of the thing.
SP1 for 64bit needs to install now, and I'm also reinstalling Jericho, COD4, and TF2. Will install Crysis and update it to 1.2 also, just for laughs.

20:58 - been doing other things, left the PC all alone. Will spend the evening doing other things, leaving PC alone for tonight.

00:52 - OK I lied. Just nipped back and for the last hour been testing stuff: EVERYTHING I run (not Crysis though, don't be daft) works at 2560x1600 with at least 4xAA at 60FPS vsync'd. No noticeable dips at all. I vsync all the time, so to me 60fps is what I need, who cares if it can do 600, as long as it stays 60, I'm happy.
Problem though: Team Fortress 2 doesn't work :( Will download other source games over night to see if that's the problem.

Dude,, leave the 64bit. these problems are all because you've installed 32bit without the SP1. try doing that then if all fails, install the 64bit.

Not to try the 64bit after that much money spent would be kinda stupid .. That's like buying a Bugatti but not going over 200mph or whatever speed for at least ONE time. So I think its a good thing that you had to install the 64bit due some problems with the 32bit first because probably you would've NEVER installed it anywhere soon and see how it performs and works in general. Might as well Unleash the true power of the components :-)

And if things don't work out then hopefully Wolf is right by saying that things should work fine once you install the SP1 on the 32bit.

Good Luck Playa !!
