Nonsense Poem
Nonsense verse is a form of poetry, composed for humorous effect, which is intentionally and overtly paradoxical, silly, witty, whimsical or just plain strange. (from wikipedia)
Why you ask, do I mention this late on a Sunday night?
well cos I just read one of the funniest (and cleverest) nonsense poems! not that I read literature, but I tend to browse around wikipedia alot (come on, everyone does it! just pick a random topic, read about it on wiki and then follow the links around various other topics! and NO I'm not a geek :p) and I stumbled on this great nonsense:
- One fine day in the middle of the night,
- Two dead boys got up to fight.
- Back-to-back they faced each other,
- Drew their swords and shot each other.
- A deaf policeman heard the noise,
- And rushed to save the two dead boys.
- A paralyzed donkey walking by,
- Kicked the copper in the eye,
- Sent him through a rubber wall,
- Into a dry ditch and drowned them all.
- (If you don't believe this lie is true,
- Ask the blind man -- he saw it too!)
